saturday

what's all the fuss about?

rhythm and booms, that's what......madison's incredibly large and overstuffed fourth of july fireworks show.
and while 98% of madisonians will go to great lengths (in terms of parking and incredibly early arrival) to partake in the festivities, we are in that rare 2% minority. granted, we have never been in town for it, but this year we had the option to join the ranks-- drive our car to a far away driveway, pay the owners $20, lug the lawnchairs to a spot in the 87 degree sun*... but we were on the fence about it... so, we spent the day... where else... the garden. setting up a system for our tomato plants to work with...

and interviewing potential mascots for our plot...
sorry 'guy from mousetrap'... thanks for trying.

little red bug...
congratulations! you got the job! aren't you so excited?!

lunch break...

driving back home...
how artsy is that!

so, today was very windy...

which was perhaps an indicator for the weather to come (or not... wind doesn't necessarily lead to rain... but maybe crazy wind like today's does)... anywho, so, about 8pm, sitting on the balcony, still trying to decide whether it would be worth it to brave all of madison's residents for the fireworks when our neighbor arrived home and told us that the show had been canceled due to impending rain, which made our decision much easier.

then...

r: what should we do for dinner?
g: let's make pizza.
r: okay, but we don't have cheese or tomatoes or tomato paste... why don't i go to the store while you start making the crust...
g: okay.
r: okay. luckily i'll be heading away from all of the firework traffic.
g: mmm....hmm... roughly.
r: la la la.

and look! all of the traffic is going in the other direction...

and this is... sadly enough... where i take a turn for the worst...

i'm stuck in traffic.
horrible traffic.

i want to tell them that i am not there because of rhythm and booms. i'm not contributing to your traffic jam... i'm just going to the grocery store. this isn't fair! can't i just scoot around you... or something? don't get frustrated with me! i'm frustrated with you! i'm just going to the grocery store for some tomato paste! but... i guess this frustration is as futile as asking the rain for just a nice light shower on our plot please since we already spent a half hour watering it today...

an hour later... i am back with the necessary ingredients.

the final product...

goodnight!

* don't worry scientists, i know the actual temperature of the sun is hotter than 87 degrees.
