spring? sun.

rabbit will find the spot in the sun...
earlier in the day.

later in the day.

whereas dracula prefers to stay in one spot... regardless of the sun.
earlier in the day.

later in the day.

and because we choose to believe it is spring outside, despite the snow, and the fact that there are no leaves on the trees, we go for a walk without all of the usual winter garb...

can you see the capitol across the lake?

on the walk back... greg finds gobbledygook...

what's in a word?

"settle" for example...

it can have negative connotations: "i settled for an apple when i really wanted that cookie."

and

it can have positive connotations: "how are you settling in?" "we're settling in wonderfully, why thank you for asking."

today... i think it has positive connotations. i'm settling into what, for me, is the beginning of the end of... well... what, for me, is a fairly significant era. no, not law school, not yet... i haven't settled into that fact quite yet... no... it is something smaller in a sense, because it is simply one component of law school... but one that has occupied so much of my time for the past 8 months... my first real case... my first real client... and... my first real final (stipulated... i.e. uncontested... i.e. settled = we all smile) hearing today... now it is mostly a matter of finalizing the smaller administrative matters as she begins to navigate a new era in her own life...

am i sentimental about it all? can't you tell?

on a less sappy note... the mrs. is watching a pbs documentary... she loves t.v.

thoughts about busy

driving home from class in the snow... still no spring...
no matter.. i'm too busy right now to enjoy much of the outdoors anyway... i get to go from the house, to the car... from the parking garage to school... from school to the parking garage... from the car to home... from home to other school... from other school to home... so i'm outside approximately six times in a day... but not for anything enjoyable... just for commuting back and forth and back and forth.

update:
from home to the recycling bin... from the recycling bin to home:

greg gets me at the best angles... eek! don't i look just a little bit like an alien?

preparing for spring

getting out the trug...

and going through the seeds from last year...
now we just need this snow to melt. it's going to be a degree out tonight. just a single degree! but, it's going to be 45 degrees this weekend... that's plenty more! almost makes me wonder where winter's going so soon.

30 acre walk

today seemed a good day for a quick stomp around the area... quick because time is of the essence... stomp because it best describes our footprints...

our first discovery...
a vole hole?

greg, prepared for the elements...

our first stop... the garden...
we quickly discover that it has sunk!

what is our asparagus doing?

community gardens...

our second discovery... animal crossing...

our third discovery... an empty nest...

three modes of travel on the blue snow...

next stop: the farm...

a very large stomp.

hopeful month

it's march! can you tell?
sure it's not so different from february, except maybe there's a bit more snow on the ground...
i don't know... what do you think?

march.

february.

and yet... what a difference. it's so hard to appreciate february sometimes, but march has something to it that we can't help but being drawn to. it offers so much hope. even if it doesn't deliver... we can't help but believe it will. march is the politician who gets by on looks and a name. february is the short hardworker that no one wants to listen to because it tells the truth ...and the truth is cold and colorless.
so... i vote for march... because there's at least a chance that it will make good on all of its promises... that in one of these next 29 days or so, it will be sunny... and a little green... and a bit warmer than it was last month.

speaking of february, it was just last week that we (well, mostly greg) painted the bathroom and our room. i was going to show you pictures of the bathroom but it's so undecorated that i'd rather wait awhile... so here's a peek instead...

our room... also completely lacking in any kind of decoration, is at least suitable for a picture or two...

and actually, right after taking these pictures we put a blueberry wreath on the wall... but... as cool as that sounds... it's really not so exciting... maybe i'll exhibit it later on at some point.
until then... enjoy march or, (if you happen to live in wisconsin) enjoy the concept of it.

saturday superfluities

well, we decided to clutter up our place a bit. so many boxes downstairs with who knows what in them, so unpack, unwrap, and display whatever it is we have thought enough of to bring with us to the new place. turns out it was mostly books and pictures.

the mint plant finds a new home...

the winter storm continues... greg... post-shoveling.

as for myself, i finally took my winter winter coat and my winter winter boots out of storage.

greg... post-hat-on-his-head...

the snowy outdoors. snowless paths do not last for long.
i think i will spend a toasty day indoors doing what else.... homework... and then maybe a little bit of homework... and then... possibly a bit more homework... and then... i think i'll top the evening off with some homework. isn't it fun to have work that you can do at home? to leave one school or the other... one job or another... and say... you know what? i'm going to take this work home and enjoy it there! homework... never-ending fun!

talked about for days...

but still, it appeared all of a sudden...

our winter storm.

It takes a real storm in the average person's life to make him realize how much worrying he has done over the squalls.
