last week

hey! bored? interested in last week's events? read ...

wednesday was concert on the square. madison's free weekly outdoor concert in the summer. it gets quite crowded...

this week's concert: symphony playing showtunes. showtunes lead to dancing...

i got to bring fun, fun reading...

outdoor tableless tables call for some improvisation...

aww... how lucky am i to have a sister visit me for a whole week?!

greg joined us after his frizzlebee game...

later that evening, we were delighted that our suspicions were confirmed... we are living with a true snuggle professional!

that's dr. dracula to you...

now it's time for the weekly garden update... which is by now, of course, as always, unfailingly, out-of-date.

mystery peppers, revealing their true identity... if only i were better at knowing what that identity is... well... i can at least tell you it's going to be hot...

spinach! i'm sure it looks like every spinach you've ever eaten...

alright... it's probably not edible. it's maybe not even real spinach. we actually pulled it out today.

mystery beans... just wait for the next garden update... we finally know what they are... if you want to take a guess, we will let you have some the next time you come to madison.

our soybeans (which will also get a fun update next time)...

notice the nice little bite marks? courtesy of the japanese beetle.

silly looking baby tomatoes!

the little asparagus forest that could...

green beanlets! can you see them???

wait for the exciting update on these little uns.

peas on a vine... i mean... pea plants, planted veryyyy late, attempting to vine up a little tiny stick.

our garlics... aren't they beautiful... and so... full of life...

wait for a bittersweet, garlicky update on them.

the vining mystery bean... still mysterious...

still doing its best to vine the neighbor's string...

the ciloriander... not quite cilantro... not yet coriander...

the onions... well, one anyway... they so often go unnoticed growing so unassuming-like in the corner of the plot...

okay... this is a mystery pepper... and i'm a little bit confused about it. for the record i have only grown two kinds of peppers before this plot... purple beauties (which... while... possibly beautiful... are not all that beautiful to the taste) and jalepenos. neither did what this one is doing, although i saw this same thing when we walked through the farm near the plot...

it's like a little lantern... not a pepper... or... well... i'm sure someone out there knows what this is all about.

beatrices...

doesn't our bolting lettuce look nice?! this is why we have to give away most of our vegetables... because we are prone to letting things like this happen...

in a couple of weeks, this could probably win a 4H contest. i'm just saying...

have i told you troy gardens has chickens?

they do!

three of them to be exact...
(the one on the left even has hair in between her toes like dr. dracula!)

and when our lettuce gets out of hand... they are happy to fling it around for us...

after the garden...

leighnard made us the most delicious vegetablitious dinner!

homemade ministrone soup!

how much did we like it???

that much!

next post: weekend out-of-state adventures...

Do those chickens have names? I would really like to meet them.
